Benkei - Bridge of Blades
This Kindle eBook is now officially available on Amazon
Before the samurai age fully took shape, Japan was already at war — not only between clans, but between temples that raised armies of their own.
From the heights of Mount Hiei to the streets of Heian-kyō, monk-warriors marched beneath sacred banners, their prayers carried on the sound of steel. Faith had become a weapon. Temples stood as both sanctuaries and fortresses, their golden halls masking ambition, blood, and fire.
From this age of contradiction, a legend emerged.
Born beneath the shadow of Mount Hiei, Benkei was said to be too large, too fierce, too unnatural for the cradle. Raised by monks, he mastered scripture and warfare alike — yet found peace in neither. As a sōhei, he became an iron sentinel: armor dark as stone, halberd heavy with judgment.
But when faith rotted into corruption, Benkei turned his back on the mountain.
Descending into the world of men, he vowed to test every warrior who carried a blade. On the bridges of Kyoto, beneath lantern light and whispered fear, he took their swords one by one — building a shrine of steel at his back.
A thousand blades, they said.
A shadow even the gods feared.
Until one night, on one bridge, fate placed a final challenge before him — a warrior slight in frame, yet vast in spirit.
And there, on the Bridge of Blades, legend and life collided.
