The Maverex Workshop
A public workshop log documenting real projects, real failures, and hard-earned lessons in creative skill-building.
I’m not an expert, just a guy sharing his journey into the world of miniature painting, 3D printing, arts and creative skill building of all kinds.
Follow along as I share my projects, my failures, and everything I learn along the way.

New Species Entry #2: The Heliovoric Expanse Organism
A silent bloom drifts in orbit around its star — vast, translucent, and alive. The Heliovoric Expanse Organism does not conquer or hunt; it simply absorbs, replicates, and expands. Left unchecked, its exponential growth could one day veil an entire sun in living green light, reshaping the fate of every world within its reach.

New Species Entry #1: The Eldrath
About two years ago, while riding the bus on an otherwise ordinary day, this concept came to me. I began imagining a space-faring species capable of traversing the cosmos without ships or technology—beings who absorb and channel natural cosmic energy to propel themselves between worlds.
They are not individuals in the traditional sense, but a unified race. Identical in form, composed of living celestial energy, they move through space in formation—drawing power from stars, nebulae, and the fabric of the universe itself. What started as a quiet idea during a commute has gradually evolved into a fully realized fictional species, and this post is a glimpse into that original vision.

Benkei – Bridge of Pain
Benkei – Bridge of Pain is now available as a Kindle eBook on Amazon. This release marks the second published format of the series.

Creative Evolution Updates
A quick look at why The Maverex Workshop’s priorities are being re-structured. This post breaks down how my failed audiobook attempt, became a Kindle novella mission. How my attempt at affiliate marketing lead me into studying web-design and web-maintenance. How 3D-printing is helping me learn how to design game assets for Unreal Engine. And how a fun little side-quest has come from the left overs of my work.

Blender Progress Log #1: From Panning the Camera, to My First Custom Trophy Mesh
Blender’s learning curve is steep, messy, and unforgiving at first. This progress update documents the early struggles, resets, and breakthroughs that took me from confusion to confidently building my first custom model.

Benkei – Bridge of Blades
Benkei – Bridge of Blades is now available as a Kindle eBook on Amazon. This release marks the first published format of the series, with an extension currently in development.

3D Printing Log #3: The Deathclaw’s Revival
This log documents the point where scale stopped being guesswork. By fixing orientation, origin, and contact geometry in the STL itself, a previously denied miniature printed cleanly, sat flat, and fit its intended footprint. Same printer. Same constraints. Better files.

Crossover Battle – Dr. Doom Vs. Vegeta
A sealed-conditions simulation examining how preparation, layered defenses, and environmental control shape a high-pressure confrontation between Vegeta and Doctor Doom during a recovery mission involving Trunks.

3D Printing Log #2: A Fire God, Gridfinity, and Beyond
After my first library print showed me where FDM starts to break down for minis, this batch was about seeing what the same machine could do when I stopped guessing and started respecting its limits.

3D Printing Log #1: My First 3D FDM Prints from the Local Library
My first 3D print didn’t fail — but it didn’t succeed cleanly either. Using a public library’s FDM printer, I learned the hard limits of scale, color choice, and why tabletop miniatures punish inexperience fast. This is a first-print autopsy, mistakes included.

Dr. Doom (2012)
A Dr. Doom sketch I drew about 13 years ago, back when I was actively studying comic-book shading and inking techniques. At the time I fixated on its flaws; looking at it now, it’s a surprisingly solid snapshot of where my skills were headed.

More Than Plastic: Why the Hunt for Funko Pops is the Real Adventure
It’s the modern treasure hunt. Funko Pops are everywhere, but the chase for that one rare Pop is what it’s all about. This is a look at the collector’s journey—the thrill of the hunt, the agony of the near-miss, and the glory of finally finding your grail in the wild.
